January 9, 2008 12:40 - GiftTRAP - Now that’s a game that’s worth its weight in gifts. GiftTrap, the very party game that Games Magazine selected party game of the year.

GiftTRAP

GiftTRAP is the hilarious new game that’s taking the gaming world by storm and putting the social back into board games. Due to the nature of the game and because no real gifts are exchanged, players may be more likely to be brutally honest with you about what they like or what a flop your choices might be. ’ The board game is designed for three to eight players and can be played in as little as forty-five minutes. -- GiftTRAP: The game offers up some wonderful treasures such as a shopping spree in Paris, having your portrait painted, six weeks leave to work as a paid volunteer, the chance to drive a tank for a day or a beautiful diamond ring. It's a good game for people who know each other, or people who want to get to know each other better. The game requires both luck and skill, as well as imagination and competition.

Despite there being 100’s of party games, its rare to find one that adults and children both enjoy playing. It’s fun because everyone gets to say what they think about the gifts before they know what they have been given.

January 14, 2008 13:27 - Uptown - Uptown is a very simple tile laying game that is surprisingly addictive. It is simple to learn, the turns are quick, and there is a great deal of interesting decision making that gets packed into 30 minutes of play.

Uptown

Uptown is a tile-laying game that can be played by 3-5 players (special rules for 2). The rules are very short, and a typical game lasts 30-40 minutes. But allow more time because you will want to play again and again! Each player gets an identical set of 28 tiles; then plays one per turn, trying to get their tiles in one unified group, while disrupting the tile groups of opposing players -- capturing them only if unavoidable.

The goal of the game is to try to connect your tiles together into as few groups as possible (maybe just one!). A group consists of adjacent tiles of the same color, but diagonal connections don't count. The player with the fewest groups at the end is the winner!
