DDR can be a very good workout - at the higher levels of play, it's essentially the equivalent of fast step aerobics. It can be pretty hard to get a good workout at the lower levels, though . DDR Ultramix 3 is great - it has a lot of good music - new and old. And it really keeps you moving. DDR has become synonymies with Dance Dance Revolution more so today than with the memory chip (Double Data Rate), the previous meaning people associated with DDR. DDR is also one of those rare games that female gamers can easily get into since there is no gimmicky violence or sexist material; it's just a really fun party game. DDR universe rehashes several songs from ultramix and returns the annoying quest mode (which is unfortuantely how you unlock songs). To it's credit, the visuals are sharper, but look very similar to the xbox DDR games. DDR pads are like most consumer products - you can buy a cheap "soft" (not solid) pad at WalMart for $20, and it'll last three weeks. Or you can buy a metal Cobalt Flux pad for $300, and it'll last decades.
DDR is Simon with music and feet, matching a predetermined pattern as well as you can. It tests reflexes, coordination, rhythm,and physical fitness -- but it is about as related to dancing as Pong is to table tennis . DDR units are found at arcades, movie theaters and amusement parks. They are usually surrounded by onlookers, befuddled by, its strobe lights and neon glow or enjoying a players performance. DDR isn't a magic bullet.
