The history of wizards and the vast body of fact and fable surrounding wizards, those healers, mystics, and memorable figures from folklore and literature have always fascinated people. Merlin is the most prominent and well-known wizard who is also a Druid. Before the Romans invaded Europe,the Druids were the undisputed power in the land. Some sources describe the druids as bloodthirsty barbarians who were addicted to human sacrifice. Others maintain that they were gentle and peaceful, and that they derived their authority from being in touch with nature. Three things were characteristic of wizard; they held ceremonies in oak groves, saw mistletoe as a sacred plant with healing powers,and they practised divination and believed they could foretell the future.

One cannot mention wizards without mentioning something about the crystal balls they used for divination, or foretelling the future. During medieval times wizards would see visions in their crystal balls that they believed to be spirits and that it was necessary to use some very potent spell to force this spirit to enter the stone. They used many potent spells that were a strange mixture of religious and magical formulas.
